Delmarva Christian softball bitten by long ball in loss to Delmar

Royals fall to 1-2, searching for offensive consistency early on
April 1, 2026

Shutouts are part of early-season diamond sports, but one will have to forgive the Delmarva Christian softball team for being frustrated following an 11-0 loss to Delmar March 30.

The bewilderment comes as a result of the Royals’ 30-4 victory over Glasgow March 26, proof positive these girls can hit and rack up runs at a high level. Juxtaposed with the March 30 outing, it highlights the high ceiling of the talent and the potential low floor of the young group.

Delmarva Christian had to deal with Macy Rickards in the pitching circle. She struck out 10 batters and gave up just three hits across six innings.

Marleigh Wells, known for keeping offenses off the board in field hockey, blasted a two-run shot as part of a three-run second inning to give the Wildcats a 3-0 edge heading into the third inning. Wells plated two more in the top of the third inning before Rickards helped herself with a two-run home run to center field in the fourth inning to make it 7-0.

Two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings allowed the Wildcats to claim an 11-0 victory in six innings.

The Royals will have a chance to move back to .500 when they welcome Laurel to Millsboro Little League at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 2, for their final game before spring break.
