Delmarva Christian volleyball downs Senators 3-0

September 30, 2021

The Delmarva Christian volleyball team took a 25-21, 25-23 and 25-23 victory over a strong Dover squad Sept. 28 to move to 4-2 on the season.

The Royals received a strong performance from freshman Elaina Millaway, who slammed 15 kills and made 18 digs in the match. Senior Sierra Troyer put down eight kills and bumped 15 digs. Makayla Heinrichs set 17 assists, while Lily Fetterman bumped 16 digs and assisted on three points. Tessa Kwiatkowski set nine assists, bumped seven digs and served three aces.

“We knew we were going to have our hands full with a quality opponent in Dover,” said Royals coach Jim Berger. “They are well coached and play well together as a team. It was nice to have our whole squad available for this match after two bouts of quarantines due to contact tracing. Our girls are coming together nicely this season. They are a very unified group, and it shows in how scrappy they have become on defense. They are starting to put together combination plays and adjusting the tempo of our offense depending on the strengths of our opponents. There is so much to the game of volleyball that is not visible to the causal observer, and this group is beginning to figure those things out and play at a very high level. It’s fun to watch.”

Dover was led by Olivia Anyanwu with 34 assists. Kimberly Czepukaitis made 14 kills.

The Royals were set to host Sussex Academy Thursday, Sept. 30.
