Demolition trend continues in Rehoboth

Three more permits issued for structures on Wilmington, Stockley and Maryland

Continuing a multi-year trend, seven more demolition permits have been issued in Rehoboth.

According to a city public notice, an application for demolition was submitted Sept. 19 for 54 Maryland Ave. The property is zoned R2, general residence, and has a two-story detached single-family dwelling. The city issued the permit Sept. 19. The demolition can occur starting Monday, Oct. 22.

According to a city public notice, an application for demolition was submitted Sept. 27 for 48 Wilmington Ave. The property is zoned C3, secondary commercial, and has a two-story detached single-family dwelling and a two-story accessory structure on it. The yellow beach cottage, with purple trim, is the former home of Wizard’s Whisk. The city issued the permit Sept. 28 for demolition that can start Tuesday, Oct. 30.

According to a city public notice, an application for demolition was submitted Sept. 28 for 17 Stockley St. The property is zoned R1, residential, has a two-story detached single-family dwelling and a one-story accessory structure. The city issued the permit Oct. 1; demolition can begin Thursday, Nov. 1.

According to a city public notice, an application for demolition was submitted Oct. 4 for 22 Cookman St. The property is zoned R1, residential, has a one-story detached single-family dwelling and a one-story accessory structure. The city issued the permit Oct. 5; demolition can begin Monday, Nov. 6.

According to a city public notice, an application for demolition was submitted Oct. 5 for 117 New Castle St. The property is zoned R1, residential, has a one-story detached single-family dwelling and a one-story accessory structure. The city issued a permit Oct. 5; demolition can begin Monday, Nov. 6.

According to a city public notice, an application for demolition was submitted Oct. 5 for 36 Sussex St. The property is zoned R1, residential, has a one-story detached single-family dwelling and a one-story accessory structure. The city issued a permit Oct. 9; demolition can begin Sunday, Nov. 12.

According to a city public notice, an application for demolition was submitted Oct. 10 for 98 Henlopen Ave. The property is zoned R1, residential, has a one-story detached single-family dwelling. The city issued a permit Oct. 12; demolition can begin Sunday, Nov. 13.

For at least the last couple of years, demolitions have been on the rise in Rehoboth. The record of 25 demolitions in a year was set in 2017. According to demolition permits published in the Cape Gazette through Oct. 17, the number of demolition permits issued by the city in 2018 is 23.
