Dewey's Golden Jubilee will return to town Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14.
Hundreds of golden retrievers and their families will enjoy an amazing weekend that kicks off with the Gold Rush Parade at 6:30 p.m., Friday, beginning at Lake Gerar Park, working its way to Rehoboth Avenue and ending at Salty Paws for an ice cream social.
The Golden Beach Romp begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, on VanDyke Avenue beach, and there will be a beach bonfire in the same place at 7 p.m. All events are free and all are welcome to join in the fun.
All friendly dogs are welcome to join golden retriever lovers for a weekend of fun, surf, sand and goldens galore.
The event supports a great cause, the Morris Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, one of the largest, most comprehensive prospective canine health studies in the United States. The study’s purpose is to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs. Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on more than 3,000 enrolled golden retrievers.
Quite a few golden heroes who are in this study attend this event. The relaxed schedule allows people and their canine companions to enjoy as much or as little interaction with other golden families as they wish.
