A wave of wagging tails and golden smiles will wash over a local resort town as it welcomes back Dewey’s Golden Jubilee from Friday to Sunday, May 8 to 10. This one-of-a-kind coastal celebration draws hundreds of golden retrievers and their families for a weekend filled with joy, community and purpose.
From sandy romps to sunset bonfires, the event offers unforgettable moments for both humans and their four-legged companions.
The weekend also supports a meaningful cause, as event proceeds benefit the Morris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, part of the Canine Lifetime Health Project. This groundbreaking research is the largest and longest observational study of dogs in the United States, working to uncover the causes of major diseases, including cancer, and improve the health and longevity of beloved canine companions.
The weekend kicks off with a surf/beach-themed GoldRush Parade starting at 5:30 p.m., Friday, May 8, at Lake Gerar Park, then winding through town to Rehoboth Avenue. The parade concludes with a lively stop at Salty Paws for an ice cream social, shopping and local treats.
The Beach Romp kicks off at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 9, on the ocean beach at Van Dyke Avenue in Dewey Beach.
Goldens and their families will gather for the Memorial Bonfire at 7 p.m., Saturday, on the same beach. Attendees may bring marshmallows, share stories and enjoy a heartfelt evening under the stars.
Everyone can close out the weekend with a sweet sendoff at Hopkins Farm Creamery, where a portion of proceeds will be donated to support the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.
Dewey Beach’s welcoming, pet-friendly atmosphere makes it the perfect backdrop for this cherished tradition, whether a longtime attendee or experiencing it for the first time. The Golden Jubilee promises connection, celebration and a chance to make a difference.
