Diane Lee Marshall, retired teacher

December 8, 2022

Diane Lee Marshall, 66, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at home. She was born June 5, 1956, in Chester, Pa., daughter of the late Stephen and Marjorie (Taylor) Nasko.

Diane grew up in the Chester and Wilmington area, and graduated from Concord High School in 1974. She continued her education at University of Delaware, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice. While initially intending to pursue a career in law, Diane instead chose to become an educator, and obtained multiple master's degrees prior to and during a 27-year tenure as a beloved first-grade teacher at Shields Elementary School in Lewes.

Diane was a true light, a beacon of joy and so very loved. Those fortunate enough to know her knew a uniquely kind, warm soul, one regarded with extraordinary fondness. While out in the town, it was common for Diane to receive hugs when seeing former students and sentiments of gratitude from their parents as she positively impacted so many lives through her extensive teaching tenure.

Diane believed in staying active and healthy as a guiding principle. She enjoyed varied interests and hobbies and had many of them. She loved riding her bike, rollerblading, swimming in the ocean and going on walks with her friends.

However, Diane mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, whether on Lewes Beach or Tower Road or on annual spring vacation trips to Sanibel Island, which were some of her favorite memories.

Her long-standing Friday night dinner reservation at Lewes Yacht Club with Cappy, her family, grandchildren, and friends were also a special time filled with laughter and love. Diane treasured every moment she spent with those she loved more than anything. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be intensely missed by all who had the good fortune to know her and share in the light of her love.

In addition to her parents, Diane was predeceased by her sister, Debra Gunther-Nasko. She is survived by her three children: daughters, Taylor Keen and Meredith Marshall (Norberto Ovide); and her son, Thomas Rowland Marshall V (Bridget Marshall); brother, Stephen Nasko; and sister, Linda Nasko. She had three beloved grandchildren: the eldest Thomas Marshall VI, and Nelly Marshall and Joseph Keen, who were delivered on the same day in the same hospital, right down the hall from each other. Diane loved that.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Diane’s memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; or Lewes Yacht Club Foundation, lycfoundation.com/donate.
