Disappointing ending for the Phillies

October 28, 2023

On Tuesday night, the Phillies lost their opportunity to go back to the World Series. They lost game seven by the score of 4-2 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. They could not take advantage of their home field. They lost games six and seven in very disappointing fashion 5-1 and 4-2. Their very successful offense (for most of the season) did not perform when they had to this week. The World Series will be the Texas Rangers versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. I will be rooting for the Rangers to win their first ever World Series. They were only one out away in the series in 2011 and came up short then.

The Phillies need to come up with a person to play first base next year so that Bryce Harper can go back to the outfield to play his normal position. I will be surprised if Rhys Hoskins comes back next year after his injury. Next year, the Phillies offensive players need to stop trying to hit home runs every time they come to the plate and try to play more old-school baseball so they don’t strike out as much. That drove me crazy all season and tripped them up in multiple games. And one more sour note. Nick Castellanos needs to learn how to take a walk more than once a month during the season. Til next year.

The Eagles had an impressive victory over the Miami Dolphins last week by the score of 31 to 17. By the beginning of the second half, you could tell that the Eagles were going to win this game because the defensive line was dominating the Dolphins offensive line. On offense, Dallas Goedert had a great game.

This week the Eagles play the Washington Commanders, who seem to always play well against the Eagles. The team needs to continue winning to keep ahead of the Dallas Cowboys in the division.

The end of the fall high school sports regular season is always around Halloween. I want to wish all Cape Henlopen sports teams good luck going into the playoffs. I don’t know if the football team is going to make the playoffs, but I hope they do because they have been getting better over the past two years. The girls field hockey team is another special group that will make us all proud. Good luck also to the boys soccer team. Hopefully they can make it past the first round of playoffs this year. Go Cape!
