Dogfish Head to highlight importance of clean water
Scientists and beer lovers will unite at Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton Saturday, Aug. 20, to learn more about how Stroud Water Research Center is working to improve the quality and availability of fresh water in Delaware.
The lecture, which begins at 7:30 p.m. with doors open at 7 p.m., will feature Dr. Bern Sweeney, director and senior research scientist, and Dr. John Jackson, entomologist and senior research scientist.
The Pennsylvania-based research center uses aquatic insects to monitor water quality in streams in New Castle and Sussex counties while also monitoring freshwater and brackish water systems with the University of Delaware's College of Earth, Ocean and Environment. The center has also helped develop freshwater education and citizen science programs at the First State National Historical Park in New Castle with The Nature Conservancy of Delaware and the National Park Service.
Tickets to the event are $5 per person or $15 for a family. Space is limited, and tickets can be reserved at www.stroudcenter.org/events. For more information, contact Jessica Provinski at 610-268-2153 ext. 288 or email jprovinski@stroudcenter.org.
