Donald John Erickson, proud veteran

Donald John Erickson, 93, of Lewes passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019. He was born July 31, 1926, in Atlantic City, N.J., son of the late Arthur and Melinda Erickson.

Don served in the U.S. Navy for three years during WWII in the Pacific. He was a Petty Officer, 2nd Class on the USS Prometheus. His service for his country was something that he was extremely proud of. He was a member of American Legion Post 5, VFW Post 7447 and Loyal Order of the Moose. Don retired from the Sheet Metal Union local 19 in 1987 after working for 28 years. He loved spending time on his boat fishing, crabbing and clamming with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and woodworking.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Erickson was preceded in death by three brothers: Arthur, Raymond and Robert Erickson. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Ruth M. (Shubert) Erickson of Lewes; three children: Lorraine Erickson of Felton, Donnie Erickson and his wife Donna of Lewes, and Rebecca Rohlfing and her husband William of Harbeson; three grandsons: Jason Rohlfing and his wife Laura of Virginia Beach, Va., D.J. Erickson of Rehoboth Beach and David Erickson of Rehoboth Beach. He will be greatly missed by his family. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow Mass at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
