Drink-tasting contest at Fire and Ice Festival Jan. 19

January 9, 2020

The Fire and Ice Festival will kick off with a drink-tasting competition featuring Dogfish Head Spirits from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, at Bethany Blues in Bethany Beach.

Proceeds will benefit Nemours duPont Pediatrics and SeniorCare, Sussex Campus.

Local bartenders will compete head-to-head to have their drink crowned the Fire & Ice Festival Out of this World Drink Competition winner. Drink competition guidelines require that all drinks will feature one of the following Dogfish Head Spirits: Analog Vodka, Barrel Honey Rum, or Compelling Gin. Bethany Blues will provide food stations for ticket holders. Participants will vote for their favorite drink alongside a celebrity panel.

Participants will include bartenders from ZOCA, Good Earth Market, Bethany Blues, Den at Bear Trap and Cottage Café. To purchase tickets for $40, go to www.thequietresorts.com.

“The event is extra special this year,” said Lauren Weaver, executive director of the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce. “We have now made it a two-weekend event, kicking off MLK weekend at Bethany Blues with our drink competition featuring Dogfish Head Spirits and benefiting Nemours duPont Pediatrics and SeniorCare in Sussex County.”

Those who cannot attend the drink competition or want another tasting of the cocktails crafted during the competition may purchase $20 tasting cards to sample the drinks created by each restaurant, from Friday to Sunday, Jan. 24 to 26. Proceeds will benefit Nemours duPont Pediatrics and SeniorCare, Sussex Campus.

While patrons venture through the tasting tour, they will explore the spectacular ice sculptures showcased at each restaurant. All participating restaurants will have either an ice bar, an ice luge, ice cocktail glasses or custom ice cubes.
