Drones assist Delmarva Power equipment inspections

May 3, 2020

In these difficult times, Delmarva Power continues to perform the critical roles of providing safe and reliable energy service to local communities, while protecting the health and safety of customers, employees and contractors.

As part of its effort to ensure safe and reliable service for local hospitals and major medical facilities, crews are performing proactive equipment inspections through the use of drone cameras. These inspections help identify damaged equipment that could result in a power outage. In addition to examining equipment from the ground, the company is using these drones to get an aerial view of the system where possible.

These devices fly above substations, power lines and other equipment to capture detailed videos and photos of the local energy grid. These videos and photos play a role in Delmarva Power’s comprehensive inspection program and its approach toward using innovative technologies to enhance the safety and reliability of service for customers and communities.
