DSO to debut Conversations on Concerts Sept. 13

Orchestra music director to host in-person chats with Cape Region fans
September 8, 2022

The 2022-23 Delaware Symphony Orchestra season will feature a world premiere and music from Hollywood’s silver screen for its return to performances in Sussex County.

DSO Music Director David Amado will host a free, informal event called Conversations on Concerts, Part 1 at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 220 Second St., Lewes. The event is a casual yet enlightening way to promote the upcoming Lewes performances and re-engage with DSO fans in Sussex County.

Amado is looking forward to the opportunity to give attendees insight and background on pieces; share his thoughts on the season and its music; and foster a lively discussion on works to be featured in the September concert. A second talk will be held prior to the March 2023 performance. Attendance at the Sept. 13 event is free, but an RSVP is required by emailing Hannah@DelawareSymphony.org or calling 302-656-7442.

“We’re eager to resume our presence in Sussex County post-pandemic,” said DSO Executive Director JC Barker. “This event with David is a wonderful way for us to reconnect through our collective love of music and get excited about the season ahead.”

The DSO’s Sussex County season includes two full-orchestra Classics Series concerts set for Sunday, Sept. 25, and Sunday, March 26. Both will begin at 2:30 p.m., at Cape Henlopen High School, 1250 Kings Hwy., Lewes.

The September performance, titled Made in America, will feature the world premiere of guest composer Jennifer Higdon’s “Cold Mountain Suite,” based on her award-winning, Grammy-nominated opera, as well as works by Ives and Dvořák.

In March, the DSO will present Masters of Film, a dynamic concert featuring iconic Hollywood film scores from yesterday and today, including “Dr. Zhivago,” “Out of Africa,” “Casablanca,” “Star Trek: First Contact,” and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” among others.

Single tickets for all Sussex County performances range from $30-$50 and are available now, along with the DSO’s Classics and Chamber Series concerts in Wilmington, at delawaresymphony.org or by calling 302-656-7442.
