Dylan Smiley throws down to win Fire Fightin’ 5K in 15:25

Eight firefighters run in full gear

A record turnout of 277 runners, including eight fully uniformed firefighters, participated in the Rehoboth Fire Fightin’ 5K Aug. 18 at the Rehoboth firehouse, the social center of the town.

Dylan Smiley, 21, ran the fastest time of the summer in a Seashore Striders race, clocking 15:25.

Carrie Rodriguez, 38, was the overall women’s winner in 22:25.

A total of eight firemen ran the race in full gear. Seven were Rehoboth members, while Allen Jackson of Milton brought his stuff so he could play too. 

Connor Anderson, 25, was the first no-fear full-gear runner in 33:37, followed by Aron Carrow, 19, 33:38; Ryan Peters, 46, 37:25; Mathew Blakeman, 40, 37:25; Allen Jackson, 51, 41:47; Lauren Pratt, 30, 46:14; Lauren Thomas, 57, 47:52; and Chatham Marsch, 39, 49:14. 

Mike Sewell, 50, was overall masters winner in 19:22. Joanna Kolar, 43, was first female masters in 23:10. 

Male age-group winners were: 9-and-under, Dylan Clarke, 25:51; 10-13, Sam Felice, 20:33; 14-19, Jake Mundok, 18:13; 20-24, Jake Bamforth, 16:54; 25-29, Jeff Young, 17:46; 30-34, Francisco Puac, 16:32; 35-39, Martin Rodriguez, 18:02; 40-44, Griffin Lipman, 20:26; 45-49, Randall Rieger, 23:25; 50-54, Chris Knoell, 22:10; 55-59, Bobby Rehrig, 23:43; 60-64, Mike Smith, 22:57; 65-69, Greg Martini, 28:55; 70-74, Tim Abbott, 25:41; 75-79, Bernie Gallagher, 27:12; 80-and-over, Jack Noel, 48:13.

The next Seashore Striders event is the 10th annual Sundance Festival Sunday, Aug. 25, at Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk.
