E-bikes do not belong on bike trails

July 15, 2022

Regarding your recent article concerning e-bikes and Mr. Richardson’s letter defending use of them on bike paths. Trail etiquette rules are posted at various locations on the paths.

Most prominently displayed is the rule: No motorized vehicles.

E-bike riders are as courteous as anyone else, but they are riding a bike that doesn’t belong on the paths we have. It is a safety issue. The e-bikes are considerably heavier than pedal bikes, and people riding e-bikes go much faster than most pedal bikers. The paths were built for pedestrians, dog walkers and pedal bikers.
