Early manufactured housing in Delaware

May 14, 2019

This postcard from the early 1950s shows the Dover Air Force Base Henry Massey family outside of their mobile home in Allen’s Trailer Park near Viola, south of Dover. Information on the back notes that there are schools and parks nearby, the trailers offer an affordable rent option, and all is approved by the state health department. In the decades to follow, Delaware became home to thousands of mobile home units in parks throughout all three counties.
