Councilman Scotty Edler is the first candidate to file for Milton’s 2026 municipal election.
Edler, 45, is seeking a second term on council after first being elected in 2023.
A graduate of Cape Henlopen High School with a background as a history teacher, Edler has served as the chair of the parks and recreation committee. He is also part of the special review committee and the personnel committee.
“I am running for a second term because the voices of Miltonians deserve to be heard and represented in a responsible and responsive way,” he said. “Having nearly completed a full term, I have valuable experience when it comes to legislating and working with our state legislators in Dover to ensure their voices are heard.”
As far as policy initiatives, Edler said he would like to continue with infrastructure upgrades, promoting common-sense development, and continuing to protect and encourage a thriving, historic downtown district.
Edler lives in Milton with his wife, Melisa, and their son, Scotty Jr., and said that having a young child makes him think about the future.
“As the father of a 3-year-old son, I believe that we need to plan for the future, not just three years or five years into the future, but 30 or 40 years into the future,” he said. “Over the next three years, it’s my hope to continue pushing for long-term planning.”
Edler’s seat is one of two that is up for re-election. The other is currently occupied by Councilwoman Randi Meredith. At this point, Edler is the only candidate to file. The deadline for candidates to file is Tuesday, Jan. 6.
“I seek to continue representing the people of Milton with passion and integrity, and look forward to engaging with them for their input and ideas as our town moves into the future,” he said.
Milton’s election will be held Saturday, March 7. The winning candidates will serve three-year terms.
