Egg tempera workshop set July 20 at Rehoboth Art League

July 14, 2019

Egg tempera is a handmade painting medium which is very easy to prepare. It harnesses the natural emulsion of an egg yolk, using it as a binder of liquid and dry pigments to create color layers. Since ancient times, artists have used egg tempera to create delicately luminous paintings of remarkable durability.

Unlike oil paint, egg tempura will not yellow, change color, or grow transparent over time. It was the medium used by artists such as Giotto, Fra Angelico and Botticelli, to name a few.

Taught by guest instructor Źaneta Zubkova at the Rehoboth Art League from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 20, Egg Tempera Painting is an introduction to the medium through historical and in-studio hands-on experience. Painting with egg tempera is like painting with watercolors and gouache. The cost of the workshop is $75 per person for members and nonmembers.

To register, go to www.rehobothartleague.org or call 302-227-8408, Ext. 112.  All workshops are held at the Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodds Lane in Henlopen Acres.

The Rehoboth Art League is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making art accessible to all. This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
