An Ellendale teen faces charges in connection with a November shooting at the Jefferson Apartments in Lewes.
Lewes police responded to the apartments at 825 Kings Hwy. after someone fired 30 rounds from an assault-type rifle from the parking lot directed at a second-floor apartment before fleeing in a silver vehicle. At the time of the shooting, police said, there were five people inside the apartment asleep. A 10-year-old juvenile, who was near a window, was shot in the forearm, and airlifted to A.I. duPont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington for treatment. After undergoing a surgical intervention to remove the projectile, police said, the juvenile was listed in serious but stable condition. The other residents were not injured.
After days of interviews, collecting evidence and examinations, police said they arrested a 17-year-old Ellendale resident Dec. 9.
This teen was formally arrested and charged with felony first-degree assault, four counts of first-degree reckless endangering, four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and criminal mischief over $5,000. The teen was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the Stevenson House State Detention Facility in default of $141,000 bail.
