Embarrassing performance!

October 12, 2017

No World Cup Soccer chance now for the U.S. until 2022! I still cannot believe the dreadful performance that the U.S. Men's National team displayed this week! They suffered a shocking loss to Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, totally knocking themselves out of the 2018 World Cup. Their performance in this last game, against a last-place team, was beyond awful. It was like they expected to win the game just because they showed up.

They played the first half in slow-motion and went down 2-0 in short order. The first goal came off of one of the U.S. player's own sloppy attempt to clear the ball out of the box. He never should have approached the ball the way he did.

The second goal came from 35 to 40 yards from the goal on a free kick. Our goalie was not ready for prime time and barely touched the ball before it went in. In the second half, the U.S. team finally decided to start playing, but it was way too late. The final score was 2-1. Because of the other game results affecting the regional standings, the U.S. was eliminated.

This should be a wake-up call to all future players. There is no free ticket to the World Cup without playing your best no matter who your opponent is. The U.S. team was not at its best during this qualifying period and their attitude to start this game really showed that they didn't deserve to go to the World Cup.

That is very hard for me to admit.

Switching to good news now, the Philadelphia Eagles completely overwhelmed the Arizona Cardinals with a 34-7 home victory. They played their most complete game of the season. The offense was moving the ball quite well and the defense was having an easy time of it against the Cardinals' nonexistent offense.

If the Eagles want to keep their first-place position in the division, they will have to maintain this level in the Thursday night game against the Carolina Panthers. This could be a playoff preview if both teams continue playing well throughout the season.

Go Eagles!!
