July 25, 2018

Ernest J. Elsasser, born Sept. 6, 1939, of Georgetown, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Maryland.

Ernie graduated from the University of Delaware and had a long career as a horticulturist teacher at Sussex Tech. He was devoted to his family, and was a wonderful friend and neighbor, always lending a helping hand to anyone he came across in need. He made friends easily and was loved by many people.

He was an active member of the Harbeson United Methodist Church, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He enjoyed horticulture, restoring homes with Habitat for Humanity, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in his community. He loved his yard sales and flea markets.

He had a special bond with his sisters Joan and Eadie; they are now reunited in heaven. He was a loving uncle to his three nieces and loved his many furry companions over the years, especially Mickey, Billy and Angelina.

Ernie was preceded by his parents, Frank Elsasser and Alice [Eastland] Elsasser; and his sisters, Joan Elsasser and Edith Wandolowski. He is survived by his nieces, Sandra Elsasser of Wilmington, Alice Carliss and her husband Ernest Carliss, and their children Devon and Sara Carliss of Claymont, and Judy Aloia of Manchester, N.J.

Ernie was a kind, fun, warm, compassionate person and will be sorely missed by everyone whose life he touched.
