Evelyn M. Jeffers, retired nurse

October 10, 2018

Evelyn M. Jeffers, 91, of Selbyville, formerly of Georgetown, Ocean View and Baltimore, Md., passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 at Brandywine Living of Fenwick Island where she resided the last six years.

She was born in Baltimore Dec. 8, 1926, daughter of the late Ignatius August and Clara (Kolkoska) August. Evelyn was a graduate and received her nursing accreditation from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore in 1947. She worked as a registered nurse in a variety of capacities, and eventually retired from the State of Maryland.

Although Evelyn never had any children, she was affectionately known as “Aunt Eve” to her extended family. Her family was the most important thing to her. She was so proud of each of her nieces and nephews. After moving into the assisted living facility Evelyn enjoyed playing bingo, shopping at the Dollar Store, dancing and listening to music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl W. Jeffers in 2012; and her five siblings, Henry, Bernard, Albert, Dorothy and Marie August. She is survived by her sister, Irene Kuras; two nephews, Jeffery Kuras and Lawrence Jeffers; eight nieces, Pam Kuras, Ellen Kuras, Dr. Carolyn Landolfo, Paula Tilley, Ruth Ann Larry, Diane Rossiter, Karen Jeffers and Mary Elizabeth Keiser; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

A private celebration of her life along with interment at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro will be held at a later date.
