Executive director of Cancer Support Community Cynthia Dwyer to retire Dec. 31
The board of directors of the Cancer Support Community Delaware has announced the retirement of its executive director, Cynthia C. Dwyer. Dwyer has been associated with CSCD since 1990. She will retire effective Dec. 31, 2012.
After a diagnosis of breast cancer in 1990, Dwyer co-founded the CSCD, formerly The Wellness Community Delaware. A statewide nonprofit agency, CSCD is dedicated to providing professional psychosocial support services to cancer patients and their family members, all at no charge. Since 2000, she has served as its executive director. During her tenure, CSCD successfully completed three capital campaigns for facilities in each county of Delaware, extended statewide reach to medically underserved residents and tripled participant visits.
Dwyer said, “Saying goodbye is never easy. I am leaving what has been one of the most important parts of my life for the past several years. Helping people impacted by cancer has been and will continue to be my passion. I am confident that with our outstanding board and staff, CSCD will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of Delawareans.”
Marcia Spivack, chairwoman of the board said, “Cindy Dwyer has been the driving force behind CSCD. Her passion and total commitment have been evident since she founded CSCD. Cindy has made a major contribution to Delaware; because of CSCD, all those with cancer and their loved ones have a place for professional support and hope. We thank Cindy for her outstanding leadership, and we wish her well as she embarks on a new path."
The board of directors is currently seeking to identify qualified candidates for the position of CEO/president of CSCD. Interested parties should submit resumes to cscdjobposting@gmail.com.
