Exhibit curated by Lewes artist Barbara Warden runs through Aug. 5 in Wilmington
Impermanence, a drawing exhibit, is on display at Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington, and Lewes artist Barbara Warden was invited to be its guest curator. The show runs through Sunday, Aug. 5.
In all, 11 nationally recognized artists from the mid-Atlantic region were chosen to present drawings interpreting the central tenet of Buddhist philosophy - the idea of impermanence. The concept suggests the evanescence of imperfect and incomplete life experiences. The only permanence is change.
Each artist has a story to tell, and they touch on subjects as diverse as lost innocence, fleeting moments, spatial ambiguity, loss of control, vulnerability and the drawing process itself. The artists offer dynamic and expressive insights into the universal experience of life's fugitive nature.
Delaware artists whose work is included are Charles Guerin, executive director of the Biggs Museum in Dover; Robyn Phillips-Pendleton, associate art professor at the University of Delaware; Lisa Bartolozzi, a nationally recognized artist with a studio in Newark; Ellen Durkan, a metal worker and performance artist in Wilmington; and Warden, nationally recognized artist and guest curator.
