First a brilliant sunset, then the real show in the sky over Lewes began: the annual fireworks show.
Thousands walked, biked or drove to Lewes Beach. Others camped out at every good viewing spot around town to watch the send-off to Independence Day 2023.
Crews on the fireworks barge began the show just about 9 p.m. as the horizon still glowed with the last light of the day.
Before the fireworks, people enjoyed food trucks, a DJ and, of course, Dairy Queen, at the corner of Savannah Road and Cape Henlopen Drive.
The Lewes fireworks are organized by the Go Fourth Lewes Fireworks nonprofit group and paid for through donations from local residents and businesses.
