May 26, 2016

First State Pickleball Club members returned from the 2016 Masters’ Games in New Britain, Conn., loaded with medals. This year’s event was played May 21-22. The Connecticut Masters’ Games are the largest amateur multisport event in Connecticut, and a qualifier event for the 2017 Senior Olympics to be held in Birmingham, Ala.

The queen mother of the First State Pickleball Club, Marion Lisehora, won gold in women's doubles and mixed doubles in the 85-89 age category. Pearl Morris won gold in the women's singles in the 55-59 category. Morris also won silver in women's doubles 55-59 as well as bronze in mixed doubles 55-59. Morris partnered with Diane Milam for the silver and Rick Bell for the bronze. Bell teamed up with Tim Milam to take bronze in men's doubles in the 55-59 category. Due to injury, Diane and Tim Milam were forced to withdraw from mixed doubles.

Earlier this month, Marisa Chaves and Chiqui Gavilán, frequent sponsors of First State Pickleball events, won the bronze medal in Naples, Fla., in women's doubles in the 2.5 category at the inaugural U.S. Open Pickleball Championships.
