March 26, 2020

Even in these uncertain times, businesses are preparing for the future. Five Lewes and Rehoboth restaurants have filed applications with the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner, all appearing in legal notices of the March 20 edition of the Cape Gazette.

– Atlantic Social Rehoboth LLC has filed an application for a restaurant liquor license, including Sundays. The building is located at 19340 Lighthouse Plaza Blvd., Rehoboth, formerly Ruby Tuesday. Protests to this application must be received by the ABCC no later than Friday, April 3.

– Essential Chef LLC has filed an application for a restaurant liquor license, with a patio and wet bar variance, for the property at 134 W. Market St., Lewes, the former Gilligan’s location. It has also applied for a catering license, including Sundays. Protests to this application must be received by the ABCC no later than Thursday, April 9.

– Thompson Island DE LLC has filed an application for an amendment to its approved floor plan to add an outside bar with 11 seats and to expand its existing inside bar from 14 to 18 seats. The business is located at 30133 Veterans Way, Rehoboth. Protests to this application must be received by the ABCC no later than Friday, April 10.

– Bushels Seafood and Crab House, 18289 Coastal Highway, Lewes, has filed an application asking for renovations that would convert an existing raw bar to a wet bar on the outside enclosed patio.

The legal notice said the plan is to remove six dining seats and to install eight bar seats and to add four acoustic speakers and have acoustic entertainment in the enclosed patio area. Protests to this application must be received by the ABCC no later than Sunday, April 12.

– Sticky Rice LLC has filed an application for a restaurant beer and wine license, including Sundays. The business is located at 1604 Savannah Road, Lewes. Protests to this application must be received by the ABCC no later than Monday, April 13.

How to file a protest

Individuals concerned about these applications can contact the ABCC who is required to hold a hearing if he receives one or more requests containing at least 10 signatures of residents or property owners located within one mile.

To file an objection, write the ABCC at the Carvel State Office Building, 820 North French St., 3rd floor, Wilmington, DE, 19801. For more information, call the commissioner’s office at 302-577-5222.

Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner John Cordrey said March 25 that all deadlines associated with submitting protests are still valid. If an application garners enough protests to trigger a public hearing, he said there will not be one held until it is safe to.
