At the same moment that Bryan Stevenson, author of "Just Mercy," was being celebrated in the Wilmington newspaper, it was announced that a school named in his honor in Sussex County was being closed after only two years for lack of students and funding.
The very essence of Stevenson's fighting injustice in the South is based on the principle of bringing mercy to people in difficult and often hopeless situations.
It's a long struggle that takes time and courage, which seems lacking as these young people were seeking to find better life in a smaller school with less intimidation.
Mercy seems in short supply in Sussex County.
