Folds of Honor to recognize veterans at local golf event
The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Folds of Honor Foundation will recognize three veterans with connections to the area during the Delmarva Folds of Honor Golf Tournament Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Rookery Golf Club.
Cpl. Christopher Shea, a United States Marine and a Delaware State Trooper, died in a head on collision July 18, 2004, while on duty serving and protecting the citizens of Delaware. Shea’s family continues to live in Sussex County.
Wilfredo Perez Jr. was an active volunteer helping others before he joined the United States Army. Called “Jr.” by his family, Perez was killed in action in Iraq on July 26, 2003. After his death, his parents established the Wilfredo Perez Memorial Fund to to honor the memory of his life and bring public awareness to fallen soldiers and to all veterans who have served and continue to serve the country.
Col. Williams Deeds was one of a small group of Marine Corp aviators who flew combat missions during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam war. Deeds began his military career in 1942, and his final assignment was to serve as commanding officer of the Marine Air Training Support Squadron, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. Deeds was the father-in-law of the late John Lingo, a former Delaware State Trooper.
