Food bank receives $41,000 from Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees
Philadelphia Dunkin' Donuts franchisees donated $41,000 to the Food Bank of Delaware Feb. 15 to help fight hunger throughout greater Philadelphia. The donation is a combined effort from Dunkin' Donuts' Roast Hunger program and the Dunkin' Donuts Joy in Childhood Foundation, and will directly support the food bank's mission to provide nutritious foods to Delawareans in need and facilitate long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy.
Through the Roast Hunger program, Dunkin' Donuts of greater Philadelphia donated 10 percent of all coffee sales Thanksgiving Day to five regional food banks. And from Nov. 24 to Dec. 31, DD Perks members could redeem a special Roast Hunger $1.49 large hot coffee offer when they paid with an enrolled Dunkin' Donuts card. For every offer redeemed, Dunkin' Donuts and its Philadelphia-area franchisees donated 50 cents to its regional food bank partners. In total, Dunkin' Donuts’ Roast Hunger program raised more than $311,000 for hunger relief efforts throughout the region.
The Joy in Childhood Foundation, formerly the Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation, is committed to providing the simple joys of childhood to sick and hungry kids. The Food Bank of Delaware is one of nearly 20 Feeding America member food banks to receive funding from the Joy in Childhood Foundation as part of a $2.7 million commitment to support hunger relief efforts in local communities nationwide.
The Food Bank of Delaware is a statewide nonprofit agency whose vision is a community free of hunger. The Food Bank distributes millions of pounds of food and grocery products each year through a network of 536 hunger-relief program partners throughout the state. It also provides thousands of meals a month for children through the After-School Nutrition Program, the Grab and Go summer meal program and the Backpack Program. The Food Bank of Delaware's hunger-relief programs provide for Delawareans at risk of going without meals each year.
