Foundation sets first lighthouse restoration work party May 14

Membership required to participate
April 3, 2022

The Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation, dedicated to preserving the historic lighthouses of the Delaware River and Bay, has scheduled its 2022 work parties in support of the ongoing restoration of the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse on the breakwater just offshore of Lewes.

Red Moulinier, preservation coordinator and past president, is coordinating this effort. The first restoration work trip will be held Saturday, May 14. Those who are interested must contact Moulinier by email at sunnyshots@msn.com well in advance of the date.

Sufficient restoration work has already been done for the foundation to host tours of the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse. To work on the lighthouse, one must also be a foundation member. For membership information, go to delawarebaylights.org/JoinUs.htm.

The lighthouse foundation is also in need of volunteers for website support, grant writing and general operational activities. It takes much work to keep the foundation going. Moulinier has been kind enough over the past 20 ears to coordinate the restoration work and serve as president emeritus, but help is needed all around.

The foundation is always looking for funding, so grant writing is a critically needed skill.
