August 18, 2022

A Frankford man, 28, died Aug. 18 following a crash on Route 113 near Selbyville.

The crash happened about 8 a.m. when a 1999 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on McCabe Road approaching a stop sign at the intersection with Route 113, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police. At the same time, DeMalto said, a 2012 Toyota RAV-4 was traveling northbound on Route 113 approaching the intersection when for unknown reasons, the driver of the Honda failed to remain stopped at the stop sign and drove into the path of the Toyota. As a result, he said, the front center of the Toyota struck the left side of the Honda. Both vehicles traveled in a northwesterly direction until coming to rest in the southbound lanes of Route 113, DeMalto said.

The driver of the Honda Civic, Edwin Marzariegos-Coronado, was properly restrained. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota RAV-4, a 24-year-old New Jersey woman, and a passenger, 16, were properly restrained. Both were transported to an area hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for about three hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.
