Frantic Frets to host Play Music on the Porch Day Aug. 30
Frantic Frets in Milton is set to host a day of outdoor acoustic music as part of Play Music on the Porch Day, which will feature local performers as well as an opportunity for those in attendance to grab a guitar and play themselves.
The event is set for 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, at Frantic Frets on Route 16 outside Milton. Seven performers will play on the store’s porch throughout the day. At the end, there will be an open-mic period for anyone in the audience who wants to perform. Open-mic performers will have 10 minutes, and while they are encouraged to bring their own instruments, Frantic Frets can loan one.
Mary Knight, co-founder of Frantic Frets, said Play Music on the Porch Day is a worldwide event where performers play on porches. It’s always held the last Saturday in August, she said.
“It helps our mission,” Knight said. “It helps people get exposed to new artists in the area. People can check out artists they want to check out.”
In addition, Knight said, the event will include food from Bobby and Chuckie’s Vending serving hot dogs and sausages. The event is free, but attendees are asked to get tickets at www.franticmusic.org/music-on-the-porch-day. Those who want to attend should also bring chairs. Knight said canopies may also be allowed if the weather is not too windy. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a nonperishable item for the Milton Community Food Pantry. There will also be a 50/50 raffle for a door prize, with money collected going to benefit the Frantic Music Projects, which helps support artists in the Cape Region.
Parking will be at neighboring Lockwood Design, and volunteers will be on hand to help get people parked.
Knight said the best part of an event like this is seeing how some of these artists have grown, and seeing them in this setting should be a lot of fun.
