Free Transcendental Meditation introduction Oct. 24 in Lewes

October 21, 2019

The community is invited to attend a free introductory lecture on Transcendental Meditation at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24,  at the Lewes Public Library. Speaker Kim Bemis has been living in an ashram, a spiritual retreat, deep in the Himalayas for the last 20 years, practicing meditation and yoga. He will discuss his experiences while in the Himalayas, and how world peace is enlivened when individuals develop their full inner potential.

The TM program is a natural, effortless technique practiced 20 minutes morning and evening. Hundreds of scientific studies have demonstrated that the technique can increase creativity, reduce stress, and improve health. A 2013 report by the American Heart Association concludes that TM may be considered as an alternative approach to lowering high blood pressure. Other studies indicate reduced hospital admissions and doctor visits among TM meditators.

Uday Jani, MD, an internist in Milton, said, “The power of meditation to activate the body’s capacity for self-healing by reducing levels of stress-related hormones and strengthening the immune system has been well documented over the years. We are fortunate to be able to learn from master meditation teacher Kim Bemis, who draws on two decades of studying and living in the Himalayas to teach this remarkably effective technique in our community.”

Dr. Joseph Schwartz, a local psychologist, said, "I am a psychologist practicing in Rehoboth Beach with over 30 years’ experience. Also, I have been a TM meditator for several decades. This technique has many health benefits including lowering blood pressure and improving sleep. In patients who I have recommended TM, all report immediate improvement in self-esteem with lowered levels of anxiety, depression and stress.’

Bemis said, "Research shows that the Transcendental Meditation program is the most effective meditation technique. It is also the easiest to learn. Anyone can learn and benefit from this beautiful program."

The talk is free, and no reservation is necessary. For more information, email kimbemis@gmail.com or call 302-236-8001.
