Free virtual ESL classes offered online; sessions begin Sept. 15

August 19, 2020

Free online classes in English as a Second Language will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15, and ending Thursday, Nov. 19. Classes will be held via Zoom.

In operation since 2004, the ESL Program at the Lutheran Church of our Savior is the largest of its kind in Sussex County. Free classes for adults at proficiency levels from beginner to advanced are offered; they focus on social interaction, vocabulary and conversation, grammar, writing and reading comprehension. The fall semester 2020 virtual sessions will be capped at six students per class. A waiting list for each class will be kept so interested students may be notified if space becomes available.

“We are committed to fulfilling the mission of the English as a Second Language program to help improve the lives and opportunities of any adult non-English speaker by offering affordable and accessible English language instruction. Our mission is particularly important during these difficult times. We are grateful to our generous funders: Arsht-Cannon Foundation, Longwood Foundation, Delaware Community Foundation, Sussex County government, Harry K Foundation, Hank Willoughby Scholarship Fund, and SoDel Cares, as well as our volunteer teachers who have enabled us to bring instruction online,” said Pam Cranston, program director.

Online registration for classes is now available at www.eslrehoboth.org. For more information, contact Cranston at lcosesl@gmail.com or 302-515-4385.
