Friends of Canalfront Park partners with Lewes in Bloom

Blooming Barrels adorn Net House deck
August 13, 2020

The Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park and Lewes in Bloom have partnered to place 13 blooming barrels on the park’s Net House deck.

Designed and planted by members of the park board and Lewes in Bloom, the oak barrels benefit from a newly installed watering system, a great investment made by the Friends during this extremely hot, dry summer of 2020.

The plantings were done in late June. Each planter honors honors individuals, including Lewes in Bloom founders Cindy Albright, Brenda Brady, Linda Davidson, Warren Golde, Carolyn Marshall and Linda Rathmanner, as well as Beebe Healthcare staff and first responders. Once the COVID-19 pandemic has passed, organizers hope to expand the program and watering system to enable more participation from the Lewes community and local organizations. They also plan to have judging and awards.

The Friends team extends thanks to board member Alan Klineburger and Lewes in Bloom's Warren Golde for all their efforts in planning and guiding planters to completion. The park is a great spot to visit on a hot day or any day. The blooming barrels will be on display all summer.
