Front Steps Project prompts charity, documents families

April 4, 2020
With no weddings, no gatherings and many restaurants and businesses closed, local photographers have seen their work come to a halt.

To document the strange times and raise funds for charity, Lewes photographer Rebecca Neufeld joined the Front Steps Project, started by Cara Soulia, a photographer in Massachusetts.

“I spend about three to five minutes with each family on their front steps, staying six feet away, and, in lieu of payment, I have been asking the families to donate to Sussex Community Crisis Housing or a local charity of their choice,” Neufeld said.

So far, she has photographed nearly 50 families. “It's an amazing time to photograph families who are all together and document this time, while giving back to our community,” she said.

Many photographers have joined in this project. On social media, search #thefrontstepsproject.
