Gary Mauler will continue to protect Dewey

September 16, 2016

I am writing to explain why we should re-elect Robert Gary Mauler for another term as commissioner. Dewey Beach is facing many challenges that will affect the quality of life in our town. Maybe folks have noticed it is already overcrowded, and that some changes are needed with the infrastructure. I just completed the survey the town has sent around about the plans for the future.

Business is set on expanding over the coming years. We need commissioners who not only understand the reality of business, but will ask the tough questions to protect the community. We need to make sure future plans do not negatively affect the residents and help businesses to be good partners in our community.

Gary Mauler has been an outstanding commissioner, and has been working to find the balance between business while promoting a good quality of life for Dewey Beach. He is not afraid to ask the tough questions. Gary's engineering background is needed on the commission to address challenges like zoning, construction projects, infrastructure and capital improvements.

Gary has been a community volunteer and leader for over 30 years. He has been with the Jessup Improvement Association as a board member, vice president or president since 1986. As a volunteer he organized and was the founder of ROBOT FEST (16 years) and technology/"maker events" for kids that focuses on STEM education. He was a Boy Scout leader and volunteer in the past as well as being on the board of the National Electronics Museum.

In his hometown of Jessup, Md., he led the fight against overdevelopment and he fought for property owners' interest in Dewey from the beginning as the influx of business came. He will ask the hard questions and probe for answers. This sometimes makes him unpopular with those who do not have answers or have not done their homework!

As a longtime resident of Dewey Beach he understands, perhaps more than most, that Dewey Beach is a "Way Of Life." I am voting for Gary Mauler to protect our town!
