Georgetown CommUNITY Clean-Up set June 26
On Saturday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., local Georgetown organizations, residents, and elected officials are joining forces for a day of unity starting with a community-wide cleanup, followed by a family celebration.
The hub for the day-long event is Georgetown’s historic Fire Station at 201 Depot St. Volunteers will arrive between 8 and 9 a.m. to register, mingle, collect their T-shirts, and enjoy morning coffee and pastries, before fanning out throughout the town in teams.
The cleanup includes litter pickup, as well as four locations where there will be dumpsters for disposal of large items and a pickup truck that is available to retrieve items that are too big to haul to the dumpsters. Georgetown residents that need help with bulky items can call 302-258-4763 for assistance.
Event sponsors encourage all Georgetown residents to come out and enjoy the family celebration, starting at noon, which includes activities for all ages, featuring food from local restaurants and vendors, live music, a play area for children and rides on Lil Toot.
Free vaccinations, hosted by Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long and the Beebe vaccination bookmobile, are available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Schedule a COVID-19 vaccine by calling Merrill Baker, 302-493-9372. Walk-ups are also welcome.
The theme of the day is UNITY, bringing together Georgetown’s diverse CommUNITY, Black, white, Latino, and Asian, to collaborate on a grassroots effort that will benefit everyone. As Georgetown has become increasingly diverse over the past 30 years, community members have more often focused on their own, and as a result have not benefited from the unique cultures that each group represents. The Georgetown CommUNITY Clean-Up is a first step toward bringing people together to get to know each other, experience each other’s unique cultures, and roll up their sleeves to increase community pride.
During the event, volunteers will be collecting stories and photos of local residents that will be posted afterward on the event website: www.georgetownde.community/home.
