Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club hosts veteran leaders

December 5, 2018

Liz Byers-Jiron and Dave Skocik served as guest presenters at the Nov. 20 luncheon meeting of the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club at Mulligan's Pointe in Georgetown.

Byers-Jiron, a retired Department of Defense employee, serves as executive director of the annual Delaware Veterans Stand Down, and executive director of the Veterans Awareness Center in Greenwood, founded by her and her husband Bill. The 10th Annual Stand Down was held Sept. 21 in Dover and provided service to more than 2,500 veterans, including resource information on assistance programs, jobs, clothing, toiletries, music and a hearty lunch.

Dave Skocik, president of the Friends of Delaware Veterans Inc., addressed the club about the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund. The trust fund was signed into law in 2013 and provides one-time, hand-up emergency financial grants to honorably discharged veterans who reside in Delaware.
