Gerald Delyne Silkworth Sr., proud veteran
Gerald Delyne Silkworth Sr., 75, of Millsboro, formerly of Chester and Erie, Pa., passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at Accent Hospice in Wilmington Hospital.
He was born in Chester, Pa., son of the late Jean F. (McKelvey) Dolsky and Edward J. Silkworth. Gerald proudly served his country in the Vietnam War for three years, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was honorably discharged. While in the Navy, Gerald completed his studies and earned his GED.
He was a member of the Oak Orchard/Riverdale Post 28 in Millsboro and in Erie, Pa., at Carl Neff Post, where he was a member of the color guard. Gerald enjoyed collecting coins and movies.
Gerald is survived by his four siblings, Gary Silkworth, Edward Silkworth, Jean Sickler and Terry Payne; four children, Gerald Silkworth Jr., Joyce Silkworth-Mallory, Jamina Bone and George Silkworth; and eight grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 22, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. A Celebration of Life, with sharing memories of Gerald, will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Boy Scouts of America, French Creek Council, 1815 Robison Road W., Erie, PA 16509, where four of his grandchildren are Scouts, and two of them are Eagle Scouts; or to Oak Orchard/Riverdale Post 28, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
