After moving to Delaware eight years ago, Lyndsey Reynolds turned her search for connection into Girls Who Walk DE, a growing community where women meet, walk and support each other in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
For many women, finding meaningful connections can feel difficult between work, family responsibilities and personal challenges. Building friendships often takes a back seat. For Reynolds, that feeling of isolation became the motivation to create a new space.
“Honestly, it came from a really personal place,” Reynolds said.
She was a young mother new to the community, struggling to find a strong sense of belonging. She realized she desired a solid group of women. She took matters into her own hands and created a space where women could come together and connect while walking.
Girls Who Walk DE is a low-pressure environment that focuses on bringing people together. What makes the group so special is its simplicity – there are no strict commitments or high expectations.
“It gives women a space where they can just show up as they are,” Reynolds said. “There’s no expectation, no pressure. Just come walk.”
During walks, conversations happen naturally while side by side, creating an easy environment for women to open up and form genuine connections. Participants often realize they are not alone in their experiences and bond over shared interests.
While walking remains the foundation, Reynolds said Girls Who Walk DE has begun expanding its offerings to support women more holistically.
“We’ve started incorporating more wellness and social elements too,” Reynolds said.
These include collaborations with local businesses and small gatherings after walks. The goal is to also put an emphasis on mental health and social well-being just as much as physical health.
In the future, Reynolds hopes to see Girls Who Walk DE grow across the state, reaching women in different towns. Getting involved is intentionally simple. Women can follow the group on Instagram @girlswhowalkde for updates. Many bring a friend or simply come alone. At its core, Girls Who Walk DE is about creating space for connection, one step at a time.
