Gloria Faith (Gilbert) Boyer, loved to teach

December 29, 2017

Gloria Faith (Gilbert) Boyer, 77, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 25, 2017. Gloria was born in Lewistown, Pa., the daughter of the late Charles and Josephine Gilbert.

She was a graduate of Chief Logan High School and Bloomsburg College. Gloria met her loving husband of 55 years, Paul, on their first day of marching band their freshman year at Bloomsburg. Gloria loved the ocean, and when she wasn't enjoying the view from her house on the bay, she walked daily on the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach after moving to the area 21 years ago. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties for family and close friends, and was famous for making the best homemade crab dip. Gloria had an avid love for teaching, reading, playing Bridge and cooking, but nothing defined Gloria more than her love of family.

Gloria will be dearly missed by Paul Chester Boyer; her children, BethAnn Boyer Glasstetter (Dan) and Peter Boyer (Kelly); her two brothers, Frank Gilbert (Shirley) and Gary Gilbert (Donna); and most importantly, her two granddaughters, Katie and Jody, who gave her much pride, laughter, and happiness.

Gloria was able to touch the lives of so many as a public school teacher in Pennsylvania and Delaware for over 55 years. She also donated her skills for the past 10 years to the Cape Carousel Program which is an after-school enrichment program that is free to all students. Gloria taught food science courses which enabled her to share her love for science and food with the children who attended. Her after-school programs were always a huge success and very popular amongst the students.

In lieu of flowers and to continue her legacy as an educator, please make contributions to the Cape Carousel Program that Gloria so dearly loved. Please call the office at 302-644-7917 to discuss how you can contribute to this program in Gloria's honor. In addition to monetary donations, Gloria would have loved to see others volunteer their time and expertise with these students.

The family would like to extend a very sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Delaware Hospice in Milford for their compassionate care of Gloria in her final days.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, at Solid Ground Church, 33739 Marsh Road #2, Lewes, from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by a short memorial service.
