Golden Jubilee brings furry friends back to Dewey

The cutest weekend of the year
October 5, 2025

The beloved Golden Jubilee returned to Dewey Beach Sept. 26-28.

Hundreds of families enjoyed a weekend of events centered around their favorite furry golden friends. The weekend began with the Gold Rush Parade Sept. 26. The walk began at Lake Gerar Park in Rehoboth Beach, made its way to Rehoboth Avenue, and ended at Salty Paws for an ice cream social.

The Golden Beach Romp took place Sept. 27 on Van Dyke Avenue in Dewey Beach. Hundreds of golden retrievers ran free on the sand and in the water as their owners enjoyed the show.

Saturday evening wrapped up with a yappy hour at Mama Maria’s in Dewey, followed by a memorial bonfire on the beach off Van Dyke Avenue, where participants honored pups who’ve crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

This year’s celebration featured a new event – a farewell ice cream/pup cup fundraiser at Hopkins Creamery near Lewes. This event offered ice cream with golden glitter and barbecue from Smokin’ D’z Food Truck.

This fun-filled weekend was established to raise funds for the Morris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. This is one of the most comprehensive prospective canine health studies in the United States. Its purpose is to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs. Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on more than 3,000 enrolled golden retrievers.
