Governor signs executive order on voter security

Task force on free, fair elections established
April 23, 2026

Gov. Matt Meyer signed an executive order April 22, regarding voter security in Delaware over concerns the federal government could get involved with the election process.

“I’m concerned that we have a president saying the federal government is going to take over the elections,” he said following a signing ceremony outside Legislative Hall in Dover.

Over the years, Meyer said people have brought up voter discrepancy issues with him, but he could not cite any incidences where fraud has occurred.

“I’m not saying it hasn’t happened, but I haven’t seen a single case,” he said.

As for Delaware’s absentee ballot process where a signature on a ballot does not have to match a signature on file, Attorney General Kathy Jennings said her office closely monitors issues.

“We just don’t see it in our office, and we would know,” she said.

Election Commissioner Anthony Albence said the opening and preparation of absentee ballots are conducted in public meetings, which are listed on the public notice calendar.

“Individuals are welcome to attend those, and folks do,” he said.

The process is reconfirmed in Senate Bill 266, he said, which unanimously passed the Senate April 21. The bill offers clarifications and technical changes to previous election law.

Meyer’s executive order creates a Delaware Task Force on Free, Fair, and Secure Elections.
