Grant funds repairs for DAR’s Thomas Maull House in Lewes

June 11, 2020

The Colonel David Hall Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is the proud owner of the Thomas Maull House at 536 Pilottown Road, Lewes.

The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes a house dating from 1739 and the gazebo enclosing the Fountain of Youth on the bank of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.

With ownership of a historic home come the expense and responsibility of upkeep, for which the chapter seeks financial support in the form of grants and fundraisers.

Delaware Preservation Fund Inc. awarded the chapter a grant of $1,000 in February. The funds were used to make some long-needed repairs. Peeling paint on the walls and ceilings was removed before resealing and repainting to preserve the historic house and enable it to be seen and enjoyed for years to come.

The DAR service organization comprises women who have descended from a patriot who served in the American Revolution. The group is dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America's future through education.
