Grifasi Eyecare reopens as L’Occhio

June 1, 2010

Dr. Richard S. Grifasi is proud to begin anew in Sussex County, and he has chosen L’Occhio as his new business name.

“Being proud of my Italian heritage, I decided to name the practice L’Occhio, which is Italian for ‘the eye’,” he said.

Located at Five Points, L’Occhio was formerly known as Grifasi Eyecare and Optical Inc.

Grifasi, an optometrist who lives in Lewes, began practicing in Sussex County in 2003 with another partner. Now solo, he said he found Lewes to be a welcoming business community.

“Starting in Lewes was a great experience,” he said. “As I was widely accepted and since I really like the area as well as my patient base, I decided to make Sussex County my full-time home.”

Operating independently, Grifasi said he is able to unlock his full potential and deliver the best in eye care and wellness. “I am now able to better equip the office so that I can deliver top-quality eye care as efficiently as possible,” he said.

Grifasi heavily invested into retooling his practice with digital equipment, allowing him to proactively manage diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and many other eye conditions. His office keeps electronic medical records, which he said increases the quality of care patients receive and office efficiency.

Grifasi has developed community service projects that increase the public’s awareness of eye disease and causes of visual impairment and blindness. He said he believes that his diabetic awareness program is crucial to helping to prevent the cause of diabetic eye disease, which is at the root of the problem.

“Instead of treating symptoms, why not fix the problem causing the issue?” he said.

Looking toward the future Grifasi said he sees his practice continually improving so that the community sees its best for life.
