Ground broken on new Milton medical facility

Campus set for opening in spring 2023

Beebe Healthcare and developer Phoenix RCHS Holdings broke ground July 19 on a new medical campus on Route 16 outside Milton.

The Jerry Ann McLamb Medical Pavilion is scheduled to open in spring 2023, offering services for primary care, walk-in care, laboratory and diagnostic imaging. The site is near the intersection of Route 16 and Route 30. The plan is to have a pair of 40,000-square-foot buildings on the 142-acre site, with Beebe Healthcare as the main tenant in one building and another building with additional medical office space.

Chris Selzer, principal of Phoenix RCHS Holdings, said the facility is named for his mother-in-law Jerry Ann McLamb, who had been a nurse for 50 years and graduated from Beebe’s School of Nursing. McLamb died in 2018.

“One of the things she talked about constantly is how important healthcare is and why it was so critical for this area to have better access to better services,” Selzer said. “She always said, ‘Chris, if you decide to do something, you need to do it in Milton.’ I think she would be very pleased to have a facility like this to provide healthcare to this rapidly growing community. We’re excited to get this thing finally started.”

Early on, Beebe agreed to be an anchor tenant of the facility. Beebe President and CEO Dr. David Tam said, “Just last month, Beebe Healthcare introduced its new five-year strategic plan – One Beebe. Two goals of this five-year plan were delivering superior access to care and experience to patients and enhancing and expanding core clinical services – the Beebe services that will be a part of the medical pavilion match those goals wholeheartedly. We are committed to filling the needs of the community with the highest quality care throughout Sussex County.”

Phoenix RCHS Holdings had originally proposed building the complex on Mulberry Street across from H.O. Brittingham Elementary School. Those plans were eventually withdrawn after outcry from residents concerned about traffic and having a busy office complex across from a school. The project was relocated outside town limits, where it was approved by Sussex County officials. For Selzer, he’s looking forward to making this project into a reality.

“I’m glad to finally get it off the ground,” Selzer said.
