Gwennette Elaine Mitchell, cherished daughter, mother
Gwennette "Cotton" Elaine Mitchell, a radiant spirit of 70 years young, peacefully departed this world Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at her home in Milton surrounded by her devoted family – her beloved mother Marlyn, her father Alfred,and her two adoring children.
Gwennette's roots run deep in Lewes, a close-knit town where her childhood was filled with laughter and love. Born and raised amidst the warmth of family and friends, she navigated life with grace, fostering a sense of community that she treasured dearly.
She was preceded in death by a loving sister-in-law, Julia Mitchell; and her big brother, AJ Mitchell.
Gwennette leaves behind a legacy of love, her dear parents, Marlyn and Alfred, both of Lewes; her little brother, Justin and sister-in-law Hope; her children, Jennifer and Jason Esham; and daughter-in-law, Sue McCrodden. The joy she found in her grandchildren, Haylah and Wesley, and her great-grandchild, Elena, illuminated her days and filled her heart with unparalleled happiness.
The bonds of family extended further into her life, encompassing many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, each holding a special place in her heart. Gwennette was an active member of the Pocahontas Running River Council 25 in Nassau, where her vibrant spirit and dedication left a lasting impact.
As we reflect on Gwennette’s remarkable life, we acknowledge the immeasurable love and joy she brought to all who knew her. While her presence will be profoundly missed, her loving spirit will continue to resonate through the lives she touched.
The family has chosen to hold private services to honor her memory, embracing the moments that brought them together in love. May her light guide us and her memory remain eternal in our hearts.
