Sussex County Habitat for Humanity held a Dec. 16 ceremony to dedicate three new homes in its Milford Homeownership Project.
The neighborhood revitalization initiative will see a total of nine homes constructed within a one-block radius.
In attendance were homeowners, family members, volunteers, Habitat staff and community supporters to celebrate the journeys that led each family to homeownership.
“These homes represent far more than construction milestones,” said Kevin Gilmore, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity CEO. “They reflect years of hard work by the homeowners, the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of donors who believe everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home.”
The multiphase initiative aims to expand access to affordable housing in Milford. For income-qualified families selected through an application process, Sussex Habitat for Humanity is building quality, energy-efficient homes. Family members contribute sweat equity hours and participate in homeownership education before purchasing their homes with an affordable mortgage.
Along with projects in Georgetown and Laurel, this is Sussex Habitat’s third neighborhood revitalization initiative in the past five years.
In addition to the newly dedicated homes, construction is ongoing at several other sites in Milford, with homes in various stages of development. The Milford Homeownership Project is scheduled to be complete by summer 2026.
Sussex Habitat is also actively building in other areas of the county, continuing its commitment to addressing the community’s growing need for safe, affordable housing.
