Halloween garb welcome at Lewes farmers market Oct. 29

October 27, 2022

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 29, at Lewes Elementary School parking lot, 820 Savannah Road.

In the spirit of the Halloween season, farmers and volunteers will be decked out in ghoulish attire, and customers are welcome attend in costume as well. Prizes will be given to vendors for best costumes and best decorated tent, and to customers for best costume. There will be Halloween stickers for kids and more.

Customers looking for fresh local broccoli, spinach, baby kale, cauliflower, butternut squash, ghosts, goblins, and scarecrows will find them all at this week’s market. The harvest is in, and market farmers are bringing potatoes, Brussels sprouts, winter squashes, sweet potatoes, lettuces, pears, apples, cider, mushrooms, pork, chicken, beef, crabs, freshly laid eggs, fall soups, breads, jams and jellies, pastries, milk, yogurt, kombucha, honey, hot coffee drinks, fresh beauty products, and beautiful flower bouquets and wreaths.

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market is producer-only, so customers are able to buy directly from the farmers who grew the produce. Dogs at the market must be under control on a six-foot, non-retractable leash.

The market processes SNAP, WIC and SFMNP, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Customers may go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its food pantry purchase program. Market customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk and other food from growers at the market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to various food pantries including Epworth church and Casa San Francisco. The market team thanks customers for their generosity.
